TRI AMSTERDAM: Middle Distance courses announced
On June 9, 2024 TRI AMSTERDAM is schedules and of course the Middle Distance (1.9 / 90 / 21.1) cannot be missed. The courses for this race – one of the largest in the Netherlands – are just announced.
The Middle Distance of TRI AMSTERDAM starts with a beautiful swim in the Amstel River: the 1900 meters covers one lap and starts at the iconic Berlage Bridge, right in the middle of Amsterdam’s business center. During the swim, athletes have a beautiful view of the tall buildings as well as the characteristic houseboats along the waterfront. Participants will start by means of a Rolling Start: “TRI AMSTERDAM has over a thousand participants each year, so by using a Rolling Start, we keep the swim accessible to everyone. Even beginning triathletes, who want to try a Middle Distance for the first time, therefore have enough space in the water and are not bothered by the faster athletes hunting for personal records,” said organizer Jefry Visser.
After the swim, a spectacular 90km bike course follows, separated in two 45-kilometer laps: via Amsterdam, the route will include Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, the Ouderkerkerplas, Abcoude and the Vinkeveense Plassen. “The course is flat and fast and offers a great combination of city, countryside and nature.”
After the bike, a concluding half marathon awaits participants in the Middle Distance: count on lots of spectators, because the four laps of more than five kilometers take you past the start/finish area each time, and spectators will line up in rows for that reason. The finish line, always spectacular, is at the Bella Vista Park. “In recent years, the finish of TRI AMSTERDAM was really unprecedented. Spectators visited the race in large numbers, creating a unique and unforgettable atmosphere. It will be no different in 2024,” Visser said.
Standard and 1/8th Distance
During TRI AMSTERDAM, not only a Middle Distance will take place, but also a Standard Distance (1500-42-10) and 1/8th Distance (500-20-5). “TRI AMSTERDAM is really for everyone,” Visser explains. “For the most experienced professional athletes to athletes who want to do a triathlon for the first time. For them, the Sprint Distance (1/8) is a great distance to get acquainted with the sport of triathlon. All athletes will be welcomed as heroes during TRI AMSTERDAM.”
Participants of the Standard Distance swim one lap of 1,500 meters, bike one lap of 42 kilometers and run two laps of 5 kilometers. Participants in the Sprint Distance swim one lap of 500 meters, bike one lap of 20 kilometers and run one lap of 5 kilometers.
