TRI AMSTERDAM 2025 Delivers a Spectacular Day of Racing in the Heart of the Capital
The 2025 edition of Tri Amsterdam proved to be nothing short of spectacular. Long before race day, the event had already sold out – drawing more than 1,000 triathletes from 51 different countries to the heart of the Dutch capital. With buzzing crowds and picture-perfect race conditions, Amsterdam turned into a triathlon hotspot for a day, hosting both the Middle Distance and Standard Distance races.
Middle Distance: Koetsier and Jeucken Steal the Spotlight
The Middle Distance race – featuring a 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike, and a half marathon – served as the day’s main event. Early morning energy turned into edge-of-your-seat excitement as the race unfolded.
Despite a less-than-ideal swim, it was Jaap Koetsier who emerged as the men’s champion. Koetsier exited the water in 30:53, trailing several of his rivals. But on the bike, he surged forward with an impressive 2:16:49 split, reaching the transition in the lead. He sealed the deal during the four-lap run around the bustling race village, clocking 1:23:05 for the half marathon. Koetsier broke the tape in 4:14:16, greeted by roaring applause. Ruben de Ruiter finished second in 4:15:37, with Francesco Cauz taking third in 4:18:25.
In the women’s race, the competition spread out a bit more. Kim Jeucken took control early and never looked back. With splits of 36:33 (swim), 2:41:58 (bike), and 1:38:18 (run), Jeucken crossed the line in 5:04:48 to secure victory. Doris Bakker followed closely in 5:06:32, and Wynia Derks rounded out the podium in 5:09:46.
National Championship Titles Decided on Standard Distance
While most attention was on the Middle Distance, the Dutch National Age Group Championships took place over the Standard Distance (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run). The national titles were claimed by Jasper van der Velde and Suzanne Brummel.
Van der Velde impressed with a strong all-round performance: 22:58 swim, 1:01:51 bike, and a blazing 36:03 run, resulting in a finish time of 2:03:52. Lucas Ingwersen and Wouter Schuit finished second and third respectively, in 2:09:23 and 2:09:28.
On the women’s side, Brummel delivered a consistent race from start to finish. Her times—23:11 swim, 1:11:38 bike, and 42:11 run—gave her the edge over Roos van der Ploeg (2:28:24) and Marleen Haakma (2:29:25), securing her the Dutch title with a final time of 2:27:13.
A Festival of Sport and Spirit
Race director Jefry Visser reflected on the day with pride:
“Looking back, it wasn’t just a spectacular race – it was a truly fun and memorable day. We were lucky with the weather; yesterday was nearly ten degrees warmer, but today was perfect for racing. You could see the athletes enjoying themselves. TRI AMSTERDAM is always our biggest race of the year, right through the city of our capital, surrounded by spectators at every turn. Today was another fantastic chapter.”
